Former Braveheart Matt Shaw Makes MLB Debut

Today at 6:10am Eastern Time, former Worcester Braveheart (20, 21) Matt Shaw made his MLB debut in front of a sold out Tokyo Dome.

In one of the more unique debuts in recent history, Shaw made his Major League Debut in the MLB Tokyo Series to kick off the 2025 season. Starting at third base, Shaw sat fifth in the Cubs lineup, right in front of former #1 Overall Pick Dansby Swanson.

Five years ago, Shaw burst onto the scene in the middle of the 2020 Covid-shortened season for the Bravehearts. In just 14 games with the Bravehearts that season, Shaw hit 9 home runs with a .370 average leading the Bravehearts to the Futures League Championship Series.

A Brimfield native, Shaw attended Worcester Academy for high school before attending University of Maryland. In 2023, Shaw became the highest draft pick in Bravehearts history, going 13th overall in the MLB Draft.

Shaw will be back on the field tomorrow morning as the Cubs finish their two-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. First pitch will be at 6:10am.

While the Dodgers and Cubs opened up this week, the rest of the MLB will open up on March 27th. Former Bravehearts Aaron Civale and Ben Rice are expected to be a part of their team's Major League Rosters, while a plethora of other former prospects will be closely monitored to see if they get the call to their team's MLB rosters.
