Alex Dion to Step Down as Manager of the Bravehearts

Bravehearts to Begin Search for New Head Coach

The Worcester Bravehearts have announced today that manager Alex Dion will step away from head coaching duties, and the search for the next Bravehearts head coach has begun.

In Dion’s 7 seasons on the Bravehearts staff, the team won 222 total games and two Futures League championships, including one as head coach in 2019. In 2023 under Dion, the Bravehearts broke the Futures League record for most wins in a single season. He coached over 15 players who were drafted by Major League Baseball teams, including Ben Rice, first-baseman for the New York Yankees.

Alex Dion had this to say about his time with the Worcester Bravehearts as head coach:

“Thank you, Worcester. I have spent the last seven summers in a Bravehearts uniform and couldn’t be more proud of what we have accomplished here.

Thank you to my wife, Erin and my wonderful family for being my biggest supporters during this time. We have grown our family during our time here in Worcester, and it is time for me to spend my summers with them!

Thank you to Dave Peterson for your unwavering support and friendship. To the Creedon Family for hiring me and bringing baseball back to Worcester. To the Vaccaro family for keeping baseball in Worcester, treating my family like your own and being such a presence in the community. To all my assistant coaches for the hard work that you put into this - our players had the experience they did because of you. Thank you to all the umpires and the other great people in our league who made the last seven years memorable.

Thank you to our fans! You have stuck with us through a pandemic, through tough times and through championship seasons. I could always feel your presence when we were on that field. Whether you were a season ticket holder, host family or just someone who came out for one game - I am so thankful for your support.

Roll Hearts”

Bravehearts General Manager Dave Peterson is hopeful Dion will remain a part of the Bravehearts organization.

“Alex is a true professional, and someone who dedicated himself to the Bravehearts season after season,” said Bravehearts General Manager Dave Peterson. “He and I had a great relationship and a mutual understanding that he took care of the players, and the front office took care of the fans. I hope he will still be able to make an impact on the Bravehearts for years to come.”

Dion will remain as head coach of the Milford High School Baseball team. He is a Westborough Native, who also coached American Legion for Northborough Post 234.
